Sigma 100-300mm, DL
The Sigma 100-300mm f/4.5-6.7 DL is a lightweight film-era telephoto zoom covering a useful range for wildlife, sport, outdoor photography and subjects that are simply too far away for a standard lens.
The 100-300mm range takes you from moderate telephoto through to a much tighter 300mm view, giving you plenty of flexibility without needing several separate telephoto lenses.
It's a straightforward older telephoto without modern optical stabilisation, aimed more at giving you useful reach in a relatively compact and affordable package.
Mount: Pentax K / KAF
Best for
- 35mm film photography
- Wildlife
- Sport
- Outdoor photography
- Distant subjects
- Learning telephoto photography
- Budget telephoto setups
- Photographers building an older SLR kit
What to expect
The 100-300mm focal range is entirely telephoto on a 35mm camera. At 100mm you've got a useful perspective for portraits, events and tighter compositions, while 300mm gives you substantially more reach for wildlife, sport and distant details.
The maximum aperture changes from f/4.5 at the 100mm end to f/6.7 at 300mm, so this isn't designed as a fast low-light lens. It's better suited to daylight, brighter outdoor conditions or situations where you can use a suitable shutter speed or support.
There's no optical image stabilisation, which is normal for a lens of this age.
