If you’re using a camera without TTL flash metering, you’re not left out either. There are two automatic settings as well as four manual power levels from full power down to 1/8.

The controls on the back are wonderfully straightforward. Set your film speed, choose your mode and the distance and aperture scale gives you a clear idea of where you need to be.

It’s a particularly nice match for a classic Pentax film setup if you want something that feels like it actually belongs on the camera.

Best for

Pentax film cameras, everyday 35mm photography, low-light shooting, fill flash and photographers putting together a classic Pentax kit.

What to expect

This is a fairly small, straightforward flash with more control than its simple design initially suggests.

TTL is available with compatible Pentax film bodies, while the two Auto settings make it useful across a wider range of cameras. If you prefer to take control yourself, manual output can be stepped through Full, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 power.

The flash head is fixed, so there’s no built-in bounce or swivel.
