Pentax AF200T Flash

The Pentax AF200T is a compact flash from the era when Pentax was making some seriously good film cameras, and it gives you a nice mix of simplicity and control.

On compatible Pentax bodies, TTL Auto lets the camera measure the flash exposure through the lens and control the amount of light needed. If you’re using a camera without TTL flash metering, you’re not left out either. There are two automatic settings as well as four manual power levels from full power down to 1/8.

The controls on the back are wonderfully straightforward. Set your film speed, choose your mode and the distance and aperture scale gives you a clear idea of where you need to be.

It’s a particularly nice match for a classic Pentax film setup if you want something that feels like it actually belongs on the camera.

What to expect

This is a fairly small, straightforward flash with more control than its simple design initially suggests.

TTL is available with compatible Pentax film bodies, while the two Auto settings make it useful across a wider range of cameras. If you prefer to take control yourself, manual output can be stepped through Full, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 power.

The flash head is fixed, so there’s no built-in bounce or swivel. Think of it as a compact direct flash rather than a big all-purpose speedlight.

It runs on four standard AA batteries.
