Nikon AF Nikkor 35-105mm

The Nikon AF Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 is an early autofocus standard zoom for Nikon F-mount cameras, covering a particularly useful range for everyday photography.

Starting at 35mm, it's wide enough for general scenes, travel and groups, while the 105mm end gives you extra reach for portraits, details and tighter compositions. That makes it an easy one-lens option when you don't want to constantly swap between primes.

It comes from Nikon's early autofocus era and uses body-driven autofocus, meaning the focusing motor is supplied by a compatible camera rather than being built into the lens.

It was originally designed around Nikon's 35mm SLR system but can also be used on compatible Nikon digital cameras. Autofocus availability depends on the particular digital body, as some newer and entry-level Nikon cameras don't have the mechanical AF drive required by these older AF lenses.

What to expect

The 35-105mm range is a useful general-purpose spread on a 35mm or full-frame camera. At 35mm you've got a moderately wide everyday view, while 105mm gives you a short telephoto perspective that's useful for portraits and isolating details.

The maximum aperture changes slightly as you zoom, from f/3.5 at the wide end to f/4.5 at the telephoto end.

This lens also offers a dedicated close-focus or macro function, allowing significantly closer focusing than its normal focusing range.
