Minolta Color Meter III F

The Minolta Color Meter III F is a dedicated colour meter made for photographers working with colour film and different light sources.

Rather than measuring exposure, it looks at the colour of the light falling on your subject. Its three colour-sensitive silicon photocells measure red, green and blue light and calculate photographic colour temperature, along with the light-balancing and colour-compensating filters needed to correct the light for the film you're using.

It works with both ambient and flash light, and the rotating receptor head gives you some flexibility when taking readings. There is also a flash analysis function for situations where ambient and flash light are being used together, plus nine memory channels for storing your own correction values.

For anyone shooting colour film, it's a fascinating piece of classic Minolta equipment and a good example of the level of control photographers could have over colour before digital cameras made this kind of information much easier to see on the fly.
