Kodak Professional T-MAX 400

Kodak Professional T-MAX 400 is a fast, fine grain black and white film that gives you a lot of flexibility without giving up detail.

Rated at ISO 400, it's well suited to everyday shooting when you don't always have perfect light. It's a particularly useful choice for street photography, documentary work, portraits, travel and situations where you need to keep your shutter speed up.

Kodak's T-Grain emulsion gives T-MAX 400 very fine grain, high sharpness and high resolving power for a 400 speed film. That makes it a good option when you want the flexibility of ISO 400 but still want detailed negatives that can handle larger scans or enlargements.

It also has plenty of exposure latitude. Kodak's technical data says it can be exposed at EI 800 with normal development, while EI 1600 and 3200 are possible with increased development time. As you push the film further, contrast and grain increase and some shadow detail is lost.

Best for

Everyday photography, street photography, portraits, documentary work, travel, action and available light.

What to expect

36 exposures at ISO 400, with very fine grain, strong sharpness and good detail.

It's a versatile film for changing conditions. Shoot it at its rated ISO 400 for the cleanest, most balanced results, or push it when you need additional speed. At EI 800 Kodak notes that high quality results are still possible with normal development, while higher settings require adjusted development.

Developing

Standard black and white processing.

T-MAX 400 can be processed using a range of conventional black and white developers. For pushed exposures, development time needs to be increased according to the exposure index and developer being used.
