Ilford HP5 Plus 400 (Football Collectors Edition)

Ilford HP5 Plus 400 is one of those films that can handle just about whatever you throw at it.

At ISO 400, it gives you enough speed for everyday shooting while still working well in lower light, making it a natural choice for street photography, portraits, documentary work and general photography. It is also particularly useful when you're not sure exactly what the light is going to do.

One of the reasons HP5 Plus has remained such a popular film is its flexibility. Ilford recommends shooting it at EI 400 for the best results, but it can be exposed at settings up to EI 3200 with extended development. That makes it useful when you need to push the film in darker conditions rather than reaching for a different roll.

It is a great everyday film for someone learning their way around analogue photography, but it is equally at home in professional and more deliberate shooting situations.

What to expect

Developing

Black and white negative film. Process using a standard black and white negative film developer. HP5 Plus has dedicated development times for different exposure indexes, including EI 400, 800, 1600 and 3200.
