Ilford Delta 3200 Professional

Ilford Delta 3200 Professional is a high-speed black and white film made for medium format photography when the light is working against you.

Designed to be shot at EI 3200, it gives you the speed to work indoors, after dark and in available light without immediately reaching for a flash. It's particularly useful for night photography, live music, events, portraits and documentary work where keeping the atmosphere of the existing light matters.

In 120 format, the larger negative gives Delta 3200 plenty of room to show off its character. Expect visible grain and strong atmosphere, but with more detail and smoother tonal transitions than you might expect from such a fast film.

What to expect

Expect visible grain, plenty of character and considerably more low-light flexibility than a conventional ISO 100 or 400 medium format film.

Despite the Delta 3200 name, the film's measured ISO speed is ISO 1000. Ilford designed it to be exposed at higher exposure indexes, with EI 3200 being the recommended starting point.

Ilford particularly recommends shooting between EI 1600 and EI 6400, although good results can be achieved from EI 400 through to EI 6400. It can even be exposed as high as EI 25,000 with appropriate testing and development.

The 120 format also gives you a substantially larger negative than 35mm, so Delta 3200's grain takes on a different character in medium format while still giving you the speed needed for difficult lighting.

Developing

Standard black and white processing.

Ilford particularly recommends ILFOTEC DD-X, MICROPHEN and ID-11 for Delta 3200 Professional. Development time should be matched to the exposure index used.
