CineStill 800T

CineStill 800T is a high-speed colour film made for the kind of light that usually has you wondering whether you should put the camera away.

Rated at EI 800 and balanced for tungsten light, it's particularly at home after dark, under streetlights, neon signs and artificial indoor lighting. In 120 format, you get that familiar CineStill night-time character with the extra detail and depth of a medium format negative.

With the original remjet layer removed, bright points of light can produce the red halation that has become one of 800T's most recognisable characteristics. It's not a subtle, neutral film in every situation, and that's part of the appeal.

For night streets, live music, portraits after dark or simply seeing what your medium format camera can do when the sun goes down, 800T gives you plenty to work with.

Best for

• Medium format photography
• Night photography
• Low-light photography
• Neon and city lights
• Available-light portraits
• Indoor photography
• Street photography after dark
• Live music and events
• Artificial lighting
• Photographers looking for distinctive halation

What to expect

Expect strong low-light performance, cinematic colour and distinctive red halation around bright highlights.

The film is balanced for 3200K tungsten light, so it feels particularly natural under warmer artificial lighting. In daylight, CineStill recommends an 85B warming filter for more neutral colour, although shooting without one can be used creatively for a cooler look.

There's also plenty of exposure flexibility. CineStill states that 800T can be rated from EI 200 to EI 1000 without push processing, and can be pushed as far as EI 3200 when more speed is needed.

Developing

C-41 colour processing.

CineStill removes the motion-picture remjet backing before the film is packaged, allowing 800T to be processed using standard C-41 chemistry at a regular compatible film lab.

It can also be processed using motion-picture-style Cs2 / ECN-2 chemistry if desired, but C-41 is the straightforward standard option for most customers.
