Our Journey so far...

2010

The Start

In 2010, I met an elderly man in an antique store who shared my passion for film cameras. I helped him repair his cameras and teach him how to unload medium format cameras without a rewind lever.

Cameras were considered relics of the past, and despite their condition and craftsmanship, demand was low. We accumulated thousands of beautiful models ready to resell at a fraction of their original value or as decorative bookends.

We operated in various pop-up stores in South Newtown, affectionately called the ‘Paris’ side of King St.

2013

The next  big step

As the steady demand increased for these machines a more permanent premises was sort at the current location at 457 King St.

As customer/ fan base increase so did the demand for film stock and processing.
Sydneysuper8 bought disused One hour Photo Lab Machines from various independent stores all who were closing down all around the Sydney area. Many were perplexed as to how Sydneysuper8 was going to make it economically viable.

Passion and dedication proved to be a wonderful asset as a customer base of new and old analogue film users kept coming back to our store.

2020 - 2024

Pandemic

Passion and dedication proved to be a wonderful asset as a customer base of new and old analogue film users kept coming back to our store.

During COVID things looked sad however after lockdown laws were eased a quiet phenomenon had exploded. Even though prices of film doubled the demand for 35mm film and film cameras out stripped demand many fold.

2025

A Big Change

By 2025 Kodak Eastman Started branding and selling their own film and some manufactures introduced new film cameras; the first time in twenty years! Notably the Pentax 17.

Refreshing & Updating

This year’s main focus has been launching a new website that captures the essence of our store and brings it online.

Despite our initial reluctance towards digital, we’ve persevered!

Our latest addition is a unique 1960s Photomat chemical photobooth, solidifying our reputation as Sydney’s go-to destination for vintage film cameras.

Went around 4:20 today and got it 30 minutes ago, absolutely amazing service and had a great chat with the workers there. I have come back many times and will forever travel there to get my film developed, amazing quality and price. Highly recommend. Thank you to those workers ☺️
